I don’t know how to tell you this…it just didn’t suit me…

I think we’ve all been there, a friend lends you the ‘book that changed their life’ and then as soon as you return it the inevitable ‘so what did you think? comes up’ and you’re thinking ‘it just wasn’t for me’ but you end up saying ‘it was good’ half-heartedly .and she walks away a bit deflated after thinking you could have analysed its brilliance over a bottle of wine.

Best-seller and book lists are a little like that friend. There’s a few sources that I trust, mainly blogs I enjoy, newspaper culture sections and the occasional book club recommendation. I was very excited to read ‘Tigers in Red Weather’ after seeing it on so many of the aforementioned lists. Set in post WWII New England ‘Tigers in Red Weather follows two cousins through marriages, children and tragedies.

It’s not that ‘Tigers in Red Weather’ isn’t good, a lot of people would disagree with me and say they loved it. It’s just that I didn’t get the feeling I should have gotten from reading what has been considered a modern classic. But that’s enough excuses..it just didn’t suit me…
